Why Sierra Leone?

Sierra Leone ranks as one of the most impoverished countries in the world. After 10 years of civil war and more recently the ebola epidemic this shows no signs of changing quickly. After visiting the country our founders saw an opportunity to truly help this is why Make it Happen came to be.

How do you raise money?

Make it Happen as a charity relies on donations. As a small charity we do not have the expertise or resources to arrange fund raising events or lobby for grant funding from other sources. We are entirely indebted to our generous donors.

Who do your work with?

As a small charity we recognise we can not do anything on our own. Make it Happen's expertise lies mainly in providing the infrastructure to enable and encourage learning. To that end our primary partner is EducAid, an organisation who specialise in education.

I’ve heard it is a dangerous country?

Whilst Sierra Leone is often associated with memories of its civil war (1991-2002) this is thankfully in the past. Since the UN peacekeeping force left in 2005 there have been peaceful, democratic elections. Today the biggest danger faced when visiting Sierra Leone are those of a medical nature such as malaria and other tropical diseases .

Where is Sierra Leone?

Sierra Leone is on located on the west African coast, bordered by Guinea to the north and Liberia to the south. It is a tropical country with two distinct seasons: the rainy season from May to November, and a dry season from December to May. The geography of the country spans from rainforests to savannah and includes 250 miles of stunning Atlantic coast line.
